What if scientists attached to Geneva’s Large Hadron Collider had discovered an

inter-dimensional rift to a series of parallel universes that look, smell and even feature many of the same players we’re familiar with, but have each approached climate change differently... Would you want to take a look?

The Parallel Effect story begins about a year ago in a top-secret facility attached to CERN in Switzerland. It was there that the first Everett-Einstein-Rosen bridge, or “wormhole,” to another universe, was created. The founders of The Parallel Effect were researchers there at the time, and immediately saw the wondrous potential of an open source version of this technology. People from all walks of life have always dreamed of better worlds – what if they could now actually visit them?

The nation-state backers of the CERN wormhole project, also understood this radically subversive dimension of multi-dimensional travel and predictably decided to keep it hidden from the general public for as long as humanly possible. So, in a renegade move, the founders left the project and took enough unpatented prototypes with them to create an EER bridge builder. One that is stable and portable enough to be deployed in “the real world.”

When COVID-19 struck, we were in the final stages of preparing for a public launch of our first iteration of this wormhole generator at Next Wave 2020 (a contemporary arts festival in Melbourne, Australia). This launch was due to be accompanied by the opening of the first ever multiversal museum housed in its very own pocket universe.

For now, due to social distancing requirements, we can no longer guide participants through a wormhole to parallel dimensions where knowledge of the Greenhouse Effect in the 1970s and 1980s was actioned, and many of today’s catastrophic realities of climate change mitigated. However please rest assured that as soon as it is safe to do so, we are committed to taking audiences beyond the normative and fraught climate change politics and paradigms of our world where they can contemplate alternative pasts and futures, reclaim and interrogate the intersectional histories and realities of today's climate crisis, and rethink and imagine possibilities for informed, sustainable, democratic interventions in the future. That is ‘The Parallel Effect.’

Until the pandemic is over, we are excited to share elements of our resources online, including:

Top secret and mind-expanding dossiers, memorandums, handwritten letters, transcripts and pamphlets – all carefully selected from virtual and physical repositories of governmental, activist, organisational, international and local archives.

A new video work - composed by one of our founders - which takes this moment of  “pandemic pause” to reflect and recall a past (the impact of which in many ways is being realised in the present) and anticipate a type of future.

A limited edition, COVID-19 illustrated zine, designed to fuel your imagination and furnish new adventures of storytelling both on our realm and beyond (featuring DIY assembly instructions for your very own pandemic-safe wormhole generator)

And loads (and loads) of other decadent bits and pieces.
